In lesson 2 you will learn some Japanese words which are useful while moving around in Japan.

At the Airport

KUUKOO – airport (pron. KOO-CO)

KOKUSAI – international (KU is short)

KOKUNAI – domestic (KU is short)

HIKOOKI – airplane (pron. HE-CO-KI)

PASUPOOTO – passport (pron. pas’-po-toe)

BIZA – visa

BOODINGU PASU – boarding pass (pron. BOW-DING)

FURAITO JOOHOO – flight information (pron. fright joe-hoe)

BINMEI – flight number

RAーGEーJI or NIMOTSU – luggage (pron. RA GAY JI)

TAKSHI – taxi (pron. TA as in tart)

 

At the Station

EKI – station

DENSHA – train

SHINKANSEN – bullet train

RESSHA – normal train

CHIKATETSU – subway

HOOMU or PURATTOHOOMU – platform

CHIKETTO or KIPPU – ticket

MADOGUCHI – counter

 

At the Bus Stop

BASU – bus

TEIRYUUJO – bus or tram stop
